The successful completion of a web project involves many components that must be understood. Any web project, even simple, involves many components that it is necessary to master in order to ensure its effectiveness. I suggest you take a quick tour of the key steps to build a website.
1. Definition of objectives
The first step in the realization of a web project, like in any other project for that matter, is the definition of objectives. Too often we talk about definition of need but I prefer the term definition of objectives because it is more precise and in my opinion more constructive. Indeed, you may need a website (need), but that does not tell us anything about your goals. Conversely, you may want to increase your visibility (objective), and the website presents itself as one solution among many others. The need is sort of a response to an objective. In this objective definition step, you will have to answer the question “Why?” I recommend that you use the SMART model in defining your objectives. "The need is in a way a response to an objective".
2. Search for solutions
Once you've set your goals, you need to look for solutions to meet them. If you want to increase your visibility, you have a multitude of solutions available to you: website, SEO, social media, newsletter, etc. So here you must list all the possible solutions and classify them according to your selection criteria (most often efficiency / cost / time). Once listed, you can choose your solution.
3. Functional specifications
Now that your solution is chosen, you must define the functional specifications, in other words, you must list, define and detail all the functions to which your solution will have to respond. You want to seek visibility by setting up your website , it will have to respond to functions such as making contact, requesting a quote, subscribing to a newsletter, etc. This step is crucial since it allows you to define the means by which you will achieve your objectives.
4. Technical specifications
The technical specifications are the step that will define the technological solutions to be used to meet the functional specifications. You want to develop an e-commerce site, the technical specifications will define whether you develop it on Magento, Prestashop or OsCommerce. Do you want to have a responsive site? The technical specifications will rule on the libraries to be used (Bootstrap, Foundation, etc…).
5. Preliminary design
10 KEY STEPS FOR A GOOD IMPLEMENTATION OF YOUR WEB PROJECTS
As the name suggests, the preliminary design is the first step of the pure design, it is here that you will realize in broad outline the visual model (web design) of your project. In this step the main components to take into account are the ergonomics and the user experience that you want to offer.
6. Detailed design
The detailed design is the development phase of the project. This is where the whole project is built and in compliance with the specifications.
7. Tests / Recipes
The test phase then intervenes to identify potential bugs and check that the specifications are respected. In the web environment, the test phase is often carried out with “beta-testers” who test and report any bugs they encounter in exchange for privileged use before the launch of the project.
8. Deployment
The deployment phase is neither more nor less the launch / online phase of the project. Too often web projects are launched when they are not 100% finalized. You have to make sure that all the bugs identified beforehand have been rectified.
9. Monitoring / Steering
The follow-up phase consists of periodically measuring the effectiveness of the project in relation to the objectives initially set, and implementing corrective actions to really "pilot" the project.
10. Continuous improvement
Continuous improvement consists of implementing corrective actions with regard to the benefits measured in the monitoring phase.
